In celebration of the 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New Zealand come along for tea at Alberton, the home of supporter Sophia Kerr Taylor where many a lively meeting would have taken place.
On the verandah overlooking the garden, enjoy tea served from beautiful vintage china and slice of plum cake made to Sophia's recipe by Food Techs student from local girls school Marist College.
Learn about inspiring Auckland women who were involved with the movement in the 1890s and were pioneers for women's rights - Sophia Kerr Taylor (pictured), Annie Schnakenberg, Amey Daldey and Elizabeth Yates.
On the Saturday contribute to a creative banner filled with motifs related to the story of achieving the vote, in a workshop with artist Janet de Wagt. Mirroring how the 1893 petition was made up of many parts from all over New Zealand and contributed to by many hands; pieces of the banner created at Heritage New Zealand sites across the country will be sewn together exhibited in Old Government House in 2019.
