Swinging Suits - RNZAF Jazz Orchestra

As part of this year's Jazz Festival, the Royal New Zealand Air Force Jazz Orchestra presents Swinging Suits, an homage to one of America's great jazz composers, Edward Kennedy 'Duke' Ellington at Old St Paul's.

RNZAF Jazz Orchestra

The orchestra will play selections from Ellington's arrangement of Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt, as well as his muscular Far East Suite.

In addition, they will premiere a new arrangement for jazz orchestra by Lex French inspired by Duke Ellington, and selections from Sergey Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet orchestral suites.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force Band is a Reserve Force unit based in Wellington with affiliated volunteer musicians on the RNZAF Bases Ohakea, Woodbourne and Whenuapai. Attached to it is the RNZAF Jazz Orchestra, which draws on the talents of Wellington's most in-demand musicians including Darren Mathiassen, Oscar Lavën, Lex French, Nils Olsen, James Illingworth, Ben Hunt and Andre Paris.
