This historic place was registered under the Historic Places Act 1980. The following text is from the original Proposal for Classification report considered by the NZHPT Board at the time of registration. Built 1908. Designed by James Bennie, and a good example of his work. The façade treatment shows Romanesque and Venetian Gothic elements in the segmented window heads, corbels and half columns. The polychromed brick adds to the streetscape.
