This historic place was registered under the Historic Places Act 1980. This report includes the text from the original Proposal for Classification report considered by the NZHPT Board at the time of registration. This house was built c1888, apparently as a gift to Matilda Tonks (1868-1957, nee Buckland), on the occasion of her marriage to Harry Tonks (1866-1939). The donor was the bride's father, Alfred Buckland (1825-1903), who reputedly gave a house to each of his daughters upon their marriage. It is a single storey bay villa and an example of a former country home surviving in suburban Auckland. The interior has kauri panelling and joinery.
