Your credit card details (Visa, Mastercard or American Express) are sent through a secure server and all membership applications are processed at our national office in Wellington.
Use this form to gift a membership to a family member or friend for one year, or renew on their behalf for as long as you wish. Just tick the relevant box at the top of the form.

Gift membership packs will not be posted overseas unless the international membership fee is paid.

Membership fee increase for overseas residents
For the first time in 11 years, we have increased our prices on some categories of membership so they reflect the truer value of the membership package we offer. We have also removed some categories to make it easier for us to manage and for you to join or renew. The changes will most affect those who live outside New Zealand.
The changes follow an investigation into our membership programme charges and costs. Factors such as postal charges – which have risen exponentially – are impacting us. It was also clear that there was a significant gap between the charges Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga sets for access to New Zealand and overseas properties and historic places, and those of our sister organisations overseas like English Heritage and the National Trust. Unfortunately it has become apparent that there is an increasing number of people living overseas who are using our membership programme simply to enjoy the reciprocal access to properties and events managed by organisations such as English Heritage and National Trust. Many people were not aware about, or supportive of, our work in New Zealand.
We believe the new prices create a like-for-like market for people supporting heritage. Our aim is to promote the message that people overseas can, and should, support their local heritage agencies. The changes enable us to focus more prominently on our New Zealand-based members (and potential new members), as well as overseas members who enjoy visiting and experiencing the unique heritage in New Zealand.
Express service: For an additional $20, express service permits priority processing of your application within five working days. Additional time must be allowed for delivery. Express service applies only to delivery to New Zealand address.
Replacement card: A worn, lost or stolen card can be replaced for just $5 including postage at ordinary mail rates. Requests for urgent replacement may incur additional charges.
Extra card: For joint or family memberships only, a second card for a partner or family member can be convenient and costs just $5. An additional card must be purchased at the same time you join or renew your membership and will be mailed to a New Zealand address. If purchased separately, an additional charge may apply for postage and handling. Extra cards are not available for 'individual' categories of membership.
A second card for a joint/family membership for those normally resident overseas is included within the overseas membership fee.
Parking: NZHPT and Heritage New Zealand membership cards cannot be used as parking vouchers at any property here or overseas.
Postal charges: Additional charges apply for international deliveries:
- $100 per annum for four issues of the magazine delivered (via airmail) to an address outside New Zealand.
Processing time and delivery
We normally aim to process and post your new membership pack including your personalised membership card within five - seven working days. Your membership pack including your card will be mailed to the address your nominate as your primary postal address. Increased demand for services ahead of holiday periods usually extends our processing times so we appreciate your patience at these times. An express service for priority processing is available at an extra charge for applications for delivery to a New Zealand address only.
Mail delivery dates and schedules regretfully are outside our control. New Zealand Post aims to deliver 95% of standard domestic mail within three working days, but rural or remote area delivery will take longer. Express service does not guarantee faster delivery to your door although we will normally use a courier rather than post to improve delivery times for this option.
International mail involves other providers so please allow at least 21 days for most overseas deliveries. If you have not received your membership pack, please contact our Membership Advisor for a replacement membership card.
Advisory notice: The processing plus delivery time for standard membership (new and renewing) at this of year is a minimum of two weeks. We cannot guarantee delivery of cards in time for public holiday periods such as Christmas, New Year and Easter. Membership cards for most renewing memberships (standard renewals) are normally delivered in the month after receipt of payment.
Accessing membership benefits: your card
The agreements we have with all our partners and providers of membership privileges require presentation of a valid membership card in order to obtain the goods or services. Our suppliers and international partners may ask you for additional identification. We do not provide electronic or other verification of your membership as an alternative to presentation of your membership card so you can visit international properties or otherwise access good and services provided by third parties while you await delivery of your membership card.
