Membership Information
Terms and conditions
Check the relevant terms and conditions for Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga membership.
Membership term
A membership period commences immediately on purchase. Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga cannot issue post-dated membership cards where the purchaser wishes to hold the membership until a significant occasion such as the recipient’s birthday or Christmas.
Memberships are provided for a 12-month term and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga generally cannot place a membership on hold or provide extensions of time. As a general rule, such requests will be considered only under certain extreme circumstances on a case-by-case basis, and a medical certificate or similar proof may be requested to inform this consideration. For the purposes of these terms, 'extreme' equates to a 90-day or more impact on your enjoyment of the service.
Overseas reciprocal visiting arrangements
Your membership with Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga provides access to most properties operated by the following overseas heritage organisations free of charge upon presentation of your valid Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga membership card:
National Trust of England, Wales and Northern Ireland (excludes Wakehurst Place); National Trust for Scotland; National Trust for Jersey; National Trust of Guernsey; English Heritage; National Trust of Australia (except Currumbin Sanctuary); Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation (USA); Czech National Trust; Zimbabwean National Trust; Gelderland Trust for Historic Houses & Gelderland Trust for Natural Beauty (Netherlands); National Trust for the Cayman Islands; Bermuda National Trust; Manx National Heritage; Barbados National Trust; National Trust for Historic Preservation (USA); National Trust for Canada; Herita (Belgium); Bavarian Cultural Heritage Foundation (Germany); An Taisce – The National Trust for Ireland; Fondo Ambiente Italiano (Italy); National Trust of Korea; Badan Warisan Malaysia – Heritage of Malaysia Trust; Din L’art Helwa – National Trust of Malta; Pro Patrimonio Foundation (Romania).
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga has a reciprocal visiting arrangement with these overseas heritage organisations but they may opt to exclude some properties from this arrangement. The properties that are excluded will be notified by the relevant overseas heritage organisation on their website – under the Properties to Visit section.
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga reserves the right to change or withdraw the benefits that apply to membership or the properties to which access is made available at any time and without prior notice. Where possible, changes to these benefits will be published on our website or via newsletter. Please note that the Coronavirus pandemic has greatly impacted the operations of some of these organisations so please check on their websites for up-to-date information about opening times, status, any local emergencies and social-distancing requirements.
Parking and special events at heritage properties
Parking is generally not considered as being part of the standard admission; therefore it is the member’s responsibility to pay for any parking fee that may be incurred while visiting properties both within New Zealand and overseas. Additional fees/surcharges may apply for tours, during events, exhibitions and in special circumstances – these are not covered by your membership.
Discounted membership offers
From time to time, Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga may offer a discount or promotion related to the purchase of a membership. Generally, the discounted price is a one-time option to new and existing members where you have not received this benefit before and are resident in New Zealand.
This may be advertised by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga or through a third party. While effort is made to ensure the correct information is provided by third parties, it can be inaccurate – particularly if information has been promoted long after a special offer has lapsed. Applications are accepted only at the current price stated by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, subject only to discounts and promotions that Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga is offering at the time of application.
Processing your membership
Refunds/change of mind
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga is committed to providing a great customer experience. If you change your mind regarding the membership that you have purchased (before the membership account has been created), your membership will be refunded minus certain transaction or administration fees as set out in our schedule of administration fees.
Please note that if your pack has been sent, you will need to return this to Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga including your membership card (at your own cost) before your refund can be processed. We cannot provide a refund after 14 days from the time of submission of your application.
Right of refusal
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga reserves the right to refuse any application for membership, refund, replacement card or to fulfil, change or to cancel a membership if you (or the member, where you purchase Gift Membership for another person) are found to be in breach of these terms and conditions.
Electronic confirmation/temporary card
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga cannot provide electronic or other verification of your membership as an alternative while you await delivery of your membership card.
Our partners and providers of membership privileges usually require presentation of a valid membership card in order to obtain the reciprocal goods or services. This includes free/reduced standard admission to heritage properties in New Zealand and those, world-wide, that are covered by reciprocal visiting agreements. Please bear this in mind and allow at least four weeks to receive your membership card before your planned visit or trip.
Postal delivery address
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga aims to get your membership benefits and correspondence to you as quickly as possible.
For this to be achieved, a full, correct, and up-to-date postal delivery address for the entire membership period is necessary. The postal address must match the relevant New Zealand postal delivery data in order for post to reach you. Any delays as a result of incorrect or insufficient information provided by you will necessarily lead to a reduction in the period of the membership card’s validity which will not be refunded.
Please be advised that a physical business address or partial rural address (e.g. RD 2, Levin) is not sufficient information and will lead to this type of delay. A year round valid mailing address/postal delivery address is required – check the address and postcode finder tool on the NZ Post website if you are unsure. If you have questions regarding this, please contact us.
Delivery of card to address other than that shown on the membership application/account
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga will send a card to an overseas address only as part of a full overseas paid membership application.
If you are planning travel or changing address imminently, please ensure you purchase or renew your membership well in advance (4 weeks) of any changes to the stated delivery address.
Member information
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga wants to ensure that you have the right membership type and the correct members named for your membership. To help meet that aim, your correct details are needed.
The full name of both adult members is required on any family and joint senior citizen memberships. Where the application for a family membership is received in one name only, the membership is deemed to be valid for one named adult plus children aged 18 years still at school) or younger. If we have to re-issue your membership with updated information, a fee will be applied as per our schedule of administration fees.
A contact phone number and email address is also required for every membership.
Replacement cards and publication requests
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga wants members to enjoy all the benefits that are offered with membership. Some of these can be accessed only through a valid current membership card. Your lost/stolen or damaged card will be replaced for a small administration cost and postage fee as per our schedule of fees.
Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga will replace cards and publications without cost to you where you have provided correct information and there has been non-delivery of a membership card or information pack by a third party (e.g. NZ Post, New Zealand Couriers, Courier Post, Royal Mail). Please allow up to 21 days for delivery before contacting us regarding a lost or undelivered card.
Any previous cards will be deactivated and cannot be used, so if you subsequently find a lost or undelivered card, please return it to us.
