“We were honoured to have Dame Aroha as our kairangi for Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House, leading up to the opening in December 2020,” recalls Acting Director Southern, Christine Whybrew. “We will continue to celebrate her great work advancing the lives of wahine Māori. Her warmth, humour and generosity will be greatly missed.”

Dame Aroha was also a great supporter of post-quake Ōtautahi rebuild in her role as Chair of Matapopore. Her influence in revitalising and highlighting Māori heritage as part of the city rebuild was very important.
