Denis Glover and Allen Curnow: A Friendship in Letters
Sarah Shieff, Associate Professor of English at the School of Arts, Waikato University, will speak about her Letters of Denis Glover, to be published in November, at the National Library Auditorium, Wellington, Aitken Street entrance, on Wednesday 28 October at 5.30pm.
As well as preparing a scholarly edition of Allen Curnow’s letters for publication, Sarah Shieff plans to develop a fully searchable database to assist future scholars. Curnow’s oldest and closest friend was Denis Glover, hence the subtitle of her talk: A Friendship in Letters.
Sarah Shieff was the recipient of a 2020 Friends of the Turnbull Library research grant, to assist her latest project to publish a collection of letters of Allen Curnow, ONZ CBE, (1911-2001). She believes that publishing Curnow’s letters will also go a long way to make up for the fact that he never wrote his own biography.
The National Library event has been arranged by the Friends of the Turnbull Library and is a free public presentation.
