July School Holiday Activities at Highwic

These school holidays, Highwic  is offering a range of activities to keep children entertained. Activities run from 11am to 3pm on a drop-in basis, with a small charge made for materials. Different activities occur on different days.

Please note Highwic will be closed to the public on Wednesday 21 July.


Wednesday 14 July, 11am - 3pm

Come and make your very own book the old fashioned way, then fill it with sketches of treasures from the house and gardens, or write a story inspired by Highwic.

From Daguerreotype to Digital

Thursdays 15 and 22 July, 11am - 3pm

Come to Highwic and get hands-on experience with one of the earliest forms of photography - Sun Prints - using only the sun, special photographic paper and interesting objects found in our garden.

A Stitch in Time

Fridays 16 and 23 July, 11am-3pm

Learn the art of creating a sampler, using different stitching techniques to produce a stitched picture.

How Much?

Children must be accompanied by an adult. Normal entry applies – adults $10, accompanied children and Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga members free. A small charge for materials will apply for each child.

No need to book - the activities are operating on a drop-in basis.  Why not take the opportunity to explore the house as well?

  • Last admission into the house at 3.45pm.
  • Closed Good Friday and Christmas Day


Adults: $10 Accompanied children under 18 years: free. Children under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum of four children per paying adult. Unaccompanied children 15 years and above and still at school: $8. Onsite parking available. Please understand that surcharges may apply at times of special events.
