When you become a member of Heritage New Zealand, make a donation to this organisation, buy from us, attend an activity or event, or otherwise enter into a business or professional relationship with us, we respect your privacy. We do not sell, trade or share this information with anyone outside this organisation without your permission.

The information you provide is used for the purpose for which it was collected from you, to give effect to the relationship into which you have entered, and/or the provision of the services that we have agreed to provide.  We do not otherwise hold or store personal information about you for longer than is required to provide the agreed service, fulfil any obligations that may arise from the transaction, or may be expected under New Zealand law.

When you visit this website, we collect information that does not identify individuals, but provides us with feedback about which pages are visited, how often the site is visited and other disclosed information.  The aggregated statistical information of this type may be disclosed to third parties in the interest of making the site more efficient and effective, but this will never include information which identifies individuals.

Email newsletters

New Zealand Heritage List

Heritage New Zealand recognises that most places entered on the List are held in private ownership, and not accessible for the public to visit. The List Online records whether a place is private/not open to the public or able to be visited by the public. The List Online does not disclose private ownership information.

Overarching statement

Section 57 of the Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Act 2014 grants Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga a limited range of powers for the purposes of investigating criminal offending under the same Act.  This is the only way in which Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga collects, uses and shares information gathered about members of the public or other entities (directly or indirectly) for the purpose of detecting or investigating potential.

We take care to exercise our information gathering powers appropriately and meet our obligations under the Privacy Act 1993, State Sector Code of Conduct, and Information Gathering Model Standards at all times.

Any such information gathering must be approved according to our internal authorisation process. That process is regularly reviewed, together with the associated activities, to ensure compliance with the law, our internal policies, and our risk management requirements.

Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga does not, and will not, make use of external security consultants in relation to any of its activities.  This statement applies to information gathered by us, our contractors, or any other third parties engaged by us.
