This historic place was registered under the Historic Places Act 1980. The following text is from the original Proposal for Classification report considered by the NZHPT Board at the time of registration. Built 1936. Simple late Art Deco style. It increases our understanding of the architect W Fielding, who also designed the Evening Post Building (classified 'C'). The merits of this building lie in its tasteful simplicity which reveals a firm control of the design by the architect and an eye for corner detail.
