This historic place was registered under the Historic Places Act 1980. This report includes the text from the original Proposal for Classification report considered by the NZHPT Board at the time of registration. Addiscombe is an unusual bay villa, with a considerable amount of original fabric. Architecturally it is an important local example of the bay villa style. It was built by a locally important figure, James Gustavus Wolferstan, who was the local bank manager.
