This historic place was registered under the Historic Places Act 1980. The following text is from the original Proposal for Classification report considered by the NZHPT Board at the time of registration. Built 1903 Architectural Significance: Built by John Swan, considered a significant Well1ngton architect. A good example of stripped Edwardian baroque. Historical Significance: Used for offices and depot by the State Coal Company, and Wellington Trades and Labour Council (dates unknown) . Streetscape Significance: Contributes to the Lower Cuba St precinct.
